Production of BMW’s new fully electric car BMW iX1 has started and now very soon it will be available in showrooms for customers. BMW has announced that the production of the BMW iX1 has already started at its Regensburg Plant in Germany and it will be available in showrooms very soon. And at the same time, its highly powerful battery is also being produced in the same plant.
The BMW iX1 is a small sports vehicle and will probably be the first fully electric car in the segment to be built at the Regensburg Plant in Germany. And being manufactured at the plant in Germany means that all BMW drive technologies are now manufactured as part of the plant’s flexible production process.
It also means that BMW’s all-German plants can now produce electric vehicles, as announced two years ago, with internal combustion engine production taking place in Austria and the UK.
Along with announcing the production of its new electric car at this plant in Germany, BMW has also installed its impressive next EV. And according to Milan Nedeljković, the BMW AG board management member responsible for production, at least one in three Bimmers rolling out of its Bavarian plants will be electric by 2024.
In addition to digital mapping, BMW also boasts of its own digital production process called iFactory which will help optimize future plant infrastructure and production processes. The plant also incorporates artificial processes in its manufacturing process. The plant’s paint shop is among those aided by AI, whose paint surfaces are scanned to ensure impeccable quality and then finished using a fully automated program.
In addition, Artificial Intelligence Quality Next (AIQX) uses AI-assisted image recognition methods to assist employees with quality inspections, and as a complement to traditional camera-based quality inspections.
Exactly like the X1 but with blue accents, the BMW iX1 is the brand’s first all-wheel-drive electric vehicle in the compact segment. It went on sale in Europe in October. Whether the iX1 will be offered in the US or not is not yet fully confirmed. However, with the third generation X1 is only available under the guise of xDrive28i.
